Enhancing a Dental Care App with an Improved UX and an Optimized UI

The Challenge

Our client supplies an intelligent real-time diagnosis tool for dental care that provides advanced patient assessments and detailed risk-profiling in a very short time. This tool is a decision support system that harnesses the analytical power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

They approached CloudX with two main challenges: to reduce the patient form filling time up to the duration of an appointment (45 minutes), and to add new features that cover dentists’ specific needs when treating a patient.

Solution

The solution we proposed for our client’s platform was to introduce a new concept design that is not only visually appealing but also simple and intuitive to use. One of the most important points was to rethink the whole architecture of the mobile app in order to reduce the completion time of the patient form.

This project involved product discovery, customer journey mapping, UX/UI, and technology re-platforming. The main feature we worked on was the completion of dental care tests like odontograms and periodontal charts, for which we designed a custom visual style and an improved user flow.

We simulated a real product, connecting all screens and conducting usability tests on the user flow using this prototype.

Innovative features

We incorporated an interactive 3D view into the user flow, to allow the dentist to explore the patient’s teeth from different angles. We also proposed a voice assistance feature, so that the dentist could interact with the device in a hands-free manner while treating a patient.

A more efficient UX/UI

Our team established a comprehensive Design System for a cohesive look and feel, with reusable components for efficiency and consistency. In order to achieve the best possible User Experience, we improved the photo upload flow, implemented easy-to-use filters, and organized the workflow’s input fields by sections, specific teeth or risk groups. The new UI ensures maximum screen space and creates a distraction-free "focused" mode.

Results

The prototype we developed cut the estimated time for a patient’s initial data intake by 50%. Our approach not only enhances treatment procedures and outcomes but also acknowledges the importance for a modern and intuitive UX/UI.
